Court marriage in Dubai for Indians: What can couples expect?

|

Indians have a symbiotic relationship with Saudi Arabia and that is why they are often present in this country for business purposes. Since Saudi shares a border with the UAE, Indian expats in the country might contemplate heading to Dubai to get their marriage done.

Before embarking on this journey, it is important to note that marriages are conducted according to Sharia principles in Dubai. In this article, we examine the legislation and principles that guide marriage in Dubai.

CONDITIONS FOR COURT MARRIAGE BY FOREIGNERS IN DUBAI

Citizens and foreigners can get married in Dubai on the basis that at least one of the parties resides in the country. So it is impossible for two Indian tourists and visitors who have no resident permit to get married in Dubai.

A court marriage is possible for Indians who practice the Islamic faith. The Foreign Marriage Act of 1969 regulates the union of Indian couples who meet the requirement for marriage in Dubai. In addition, they are required to submit the following:

  • Four forms that provide Notice of intended marriage
  • Two copies of the marriage declaration form
  • Divorce and Death certificates if available
  • Four passport copies
  • Four passport photographs of the couple

The couple and three witnesses will be signatories to the marriage. Next, the public will be notified of the marriage through a newspaper publication. At least 30 days after the newspaper publication, a date will be set for the officiation of the marriage.

SUBSTITUTES TO COURT MARRIAGE IN DUBAI FOR INDIANS

We can deduce from the foregoing that a court marriage for Indians in Dubai will run into months. Also, many documents are required before the solemnization of the marriage. Couples who want to get married quickly might have to consider marriage in Georgia or the Online route.

Online marriage is a good option because the marriage proceedings can be completed from the comfort of the couple’s location. A Georgian marriage is also great because it affords the couple easy wedding options. With few official papers required, the marriage can be registered within a day and other arrangements completed in two weeks.
