Indians have a symbiotic relationship with Saudi Arabia, and that is why they are often present in this country for business purposes. Since Saudi Arabia shares a border with the UAE, Indian expatriates in the country might consider heading to Dubai to get their marriage registered. Moreover, they can also opt for an Abu Dhabi court marriage, UAE.

Before embarking on this journey, it is important to note that marriages are conducted according to Sharia principles in Dubai. In this article, we examine the legislation and principles that guide marriage in Dubai.

CONDITIONS FOR COURT MARRIAGE BY FOREIGNERS IN DUBAI

Citizens and foreigners can get married in Dubai on the basis that at least one of the parties resides in the country. So it is impossible for two Indian tourists and visitors who have no resident permit to get married in Dubai.

A court marriage is possible for Indians who practice the Islamic faith. The Foreign Marriage Act of 1969 regulates the union of Indian couples who meet the requirement for marriage in Dubai. In addition, they are required to submit the following:

  • Four forms that provide Notice of intended marriage
  • Two copies of the marriage declaration form
  • Divorce and Death certificates if available
  • Four passport copies
  • Four passport photographs of the couple

The couple and three witnesses will be signatories to the marriage. Next, the public will be notified of the marriage through a newspaper publication. At least 30 days after the newspaper publication, a date will be set for the officiation of the marriage.
